My name is Tashi Wangyal, founder of Zanskar Destination, and I come from the picturesque village of Tsazar, nestled in the Sham (Lower) region of Zanskar in southern Ladakh. Growing up amidst the dramatic landscapes of the Himalayas, I developed a deep connection with the mountains and the rich cultural heritage of my homeland from an early age.
After completing my schooling at Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School in Leh, I earned a Diploma in Travel & Tourism from the Jammu & Kashmir State Board of Technical Education. To further strengthen my expertise in mountain travel, I successfully completed the Basic Mountaineering Course at ABVIMAS in Manali.
For over a decade, I worked as a professional trekking guide, leading expeditions across the remote valleys and high-altitude trails of Zanskar. Having explored virtually every major trekking route in the region, I gained invaluable experience in expedition planning, mountain safety, local culture, and personalized guest services.
The inspiration to establish my own travel company dates back to my childhood. My grandmother often accompanied groups of French trekkers through the mountains, and watching travelers from around the world discover the beauty of Zanskar sparked a lifelong dream within me. I wanted to share the untouched landscapes, authentic traditions, and warm hospitality of my homeland with discerning travelers from across the globe.
That dream became a reality in 2018, when I founded Zanskar Destination—a boutique travel company dedicated to creating authentic, tailor-made journeys across Ladakh and Zanskar.
Today, we specialize in bespoke cultural tours, luxury road expeditions, high-altitude trekking adventures, camping experiences, and immersive Himalayan holidays. Every itinerary is thoughtfully designed around our guests' individual interests, comfort, and travel aspirations.
